Awakening in the Spring

I could swear I had another life here, though barely remembered.

It is in my mind’s eye with the same misty fog that sometimes blows in from the shoreline at nighttime.

I can taste a strong earthy tea on my lips, with just a little bit of milk and sweetened, floating, squared sugar cubes.

I remember the smile of a handsome boat captain who waived at me every Sunday morning when he came into town, and never failed to mention how pretty I looked in my flowing dress,

Or the sweetness of a newly ripened, bright red apple, plucked right from the tree branch….

The bright colors of the season and awakenings of Spring whisper within my head of life changing thoughts and new beginnings.

There is nothing quite like soul searching while standing on a dock, next to the water’s high splashing waves, on the New England coast.

The salty smell in the air gives one the feeling of determination, invigorated life and the forming of new dreams or ambitions,

while the chill of the air, sound of the fluttering wind, and occasional shadowed sky can help one reminiscence of dark memories that have passed.

This is the home that I never knew I had.

I feel pulled in and guided from deep inside my soul as the sun sets into the lake and the light house beam explodes from its tower.

It feels like an old friend that was searching for me through what must seem like lifetimes and has finally found me to welcome me home.

The anthem of New England is a calming breeze against my wrapped cardigan,

Sung by birds circling the piers and families of ducks dipping along the tide.

There is no doubt that a part of me will never leave this beautiful seaside.
