Question: What made you want to start creating in SL?
VandeLo: In real life, I worked as an architectural designer, but I often dreamed of creations that couldn’t quite come to life in the real world. SL provides the perfect space for me to bring those visions to reality, which is what truly drives my passion for creating here.
Question: Tell everyone about your team.
VandeLo: Our team consists of two talented individuals: Jordy Ishnoo, who oversees the overall architectural framework, and VandeLo, who brings each space to life through interior decoration. Together, we create beautifully cohesive designs that reflect both structure and style.
Question: How did you pick the name for your store?
VandeLo: Sixteen years ago, after attending an annual SL conference in Florida, I was on a boat ride back when two dolphins suddenly leapt from the water right in front of me. That magical moment inspired us to create Dolphin Design, and it’s been our guiding symbol ever since.
Question: The creative process is different for everyone, where do you get most of the inspiration for your creations?
VandeLo: Creative inspiration comes to me from many places, as I’m also a photographer and have had the chance to travel extensively. Experiencing different landscapes, architectural styles, and interior designs has shaped my creative vision, and I make a point to mentally capture these details along the way.
Question: What was your very first release?
VandeLo: Our very first release was the Wind Night House, and it quickly became a beloved favorite. I still remember the excitement when it gained popularity and even caught the attention of Philip Rosedale, the CEO of SL at the time, who purchased one himself. For over 15 years, this house has remained iconic among SL residents!
Question: Out of all of your releases, which one is your greatest achievement and why?
VandeLo: Truly, every product I create represents my greatest achievement. I am committed to ensuring the highest quality and distinctive style in each and every piece.
Question: Outside of SL, what are your hobbies and interests?
VandeLo: Outside of SL, I’m passionate about outdoor photography. I love capturing textures and unique materials through my lens, building a collection that not only inspires me but often finds its way into my creative work.
Question: What is the best thing about creating? What is the worst?
VandeLo: The best part of creating for me is definitely the modeling and rendering—it’s a process that brings me a sense of calm and focus. On the flip side, programming is my least favorite aspect; while essential, it doesn’t quite bring the same joy as the artistry involved in design.
