This slice-of-life kitchen photo draws the eye and makes me think of my grandmother’s kitchen, even though it bears little resemblance to the place of my memories. No; it’s the air of things in progress, the feeling that whoever works in this kitchen really loves what they do. This is no pristine showplace: this is a working kitchen. I get the feeling that just out of the view, there’s a cluttered table, someone finishing breakfast whilst they go over the finer points of the day, maybe a screen door on a spring hitting the doorjamb as someone else heads off for work or school. This is a beautifully composed image, full of life and purpose, and I just kinda want to step in there and find out what’s on the docket for lunch.
Svelte has used some beautiful items from DaD, Thor, Nutmeg, and other designers in their lovely image, and everything just looks as if it belongs here, even if it’s a bit different from everything around it. Like all the best kitchens, it’s a hodgepodge of a few things acquired at the same time and other things that found a home here over time.
