New Land – What Season Is It?

For many of us living in northern climates, once the holidays pass, there forms an ever growing murmur of discontent. Gone is the romance of sleigh bells ringing and imagining deer tracks on rooftops. The enemy is here and they are the local meteorologist.

For me the adversary is a Pennsylvania groundhog. As the legend goes, we will soon find out whether we have six more weeks of this nonsense based on whether Phil perceives his shadow. I live only about 90 minutes from where this spectacle will take place next week. If anything can blunt the bad news that usually comes from the little guy, Groundhog Day is reportedly one heck of a party.

I was feeling discontent with my surroundings last weekend as we dealt with a polar vortex griefing my real life environment. So, I took a break from my usual creative pursuit and jumped to a platform I use to take pictures of products.

I do not claim to possess the landscaping or photography skills of most of the people dedicating their time to those crafts. However, in a relatively short period of time, I was able to craft something that gave me enjoyment and let me feel the hope that Spring often brings for me. You can easily do it too.

Any of us who have been here long enough recognize how Second Life allows us to escape the laws and bounds of real life. We can construct an outdoor scene like the above on a platform 3700 meters in the sky without fear of falling or raining rocks down on those below. Likewise, we can escape winter if we so choose. This ability to craft our environment is something that is part of the attraction for any resident who has persisted in their SL journey past Welcome Island.

What season are you enjoying on you land right now?
